Science & Math - Mrs. Annora Quenzer-Ray
aka: Q-Ray, Q, Ray
What to Expect this Year
MathSixth grade is an important year for math! Together, we will work to solidify conceptual knowledge you learned in past years and apply, refine, and extend it into new settings and problem types. Students will also have access to IXL, a dynamic, interactive web-based learning platform that allows students to work through math standards and tracks their progress. I will be striving to make our units more task based and allow students to conceptualize math, not just memorize a formula. Students should expect to be challenged, but have no fear! Even if something is hard at first, remember that together we can accomplish anything! I love a phrase I stole from a former coworker: What is easy for you, could be hard for me; and what is easy for me could be hard for you! (Meaning, it is okay to sometimes struggle and sometimes excel!) Topics we will cover:

ScienceSixth grade science is focused on space and earth science specifically. We will start our year learning about the universe and solar system and gradually move inward to study specific systems and features of Earth. I love to have students learn science by doing what scientists do, so please expect to be doing lots of the following: making observations, asking questions and/or defining problems, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematics, constructing explanations and/or designing solutions, engaging in arguments from evidence, obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information, and collaborating and helping one another. Topics we will cover:

The most important thing to me is that you feel comfortable and safe in our classroom! I hope you get excited about making mistakes and learning from them and attacking struggles with a growth mindset. You can do anything if you are willing to work hard! I'm here to help you be the awesome student and kid that I know you are!
